Ex-Senator denies Saudi Arabia arrest reports

Barata was alleged to have been detained by Saudi authorities after he supposedly claimed to be an official of the Nigerian Embassy.

Hassan Barata

Former Senator, Hassan Barata has denied reports that he was arrested in Saudi Arabia for making false claims.

The former Senator has however blamed the rumours on his political opponents.

"The allegation must have been fabricated by my political detractors who also alleged that I defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party,” Barata said while speaking to Punch on Sunday, September 13, 2015.

“Aside the fact that I am still a member of the APC, the question is, what has the Saudi issue got to do with politics? This shows that the allegation was fabricated by detractors; it is all lies because I am not in detention in Saudi Arabia and I have not defected from the APC,” he added.

Barata also said that had not travelled out of Nigeria for a while and as such could not overstayed in Saudi Arabia as alleged by the reports.
