Technologists urge Buhari to diversify economy

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has called on the Federal Government to urgently diversify the Nigerian economy.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari speaks during German President Joachim Gauck's visit to the State House in Abuja, Nigeria February 11, 2016.

According to the group, Nigeria should look beyond oil to salvage the current economic logjam.

‎In a communiqué issued on Sunday, April 17, 2016, and signed by its general Secretary, Comrade Oyoyo Hamilton the union said government continued dependence on oil would spell doom for the nation.

The communiqué also urged the federal and state governments to fully implement the 2009 FGN/NAAT agreement which according to them is long overdue.

The union said it is important for government to put in place mechanisms for renegotiation of the 2009 with the union if the current industrial harmony on university campuses must be sustained.
