Liberia has began its countdown to being an Ebola-free country as the last patient, Beatrice Yardolo has been released from a treatment center in Monrovia, the Associated Press reports.

The 58-year old English teacher told reporters:
"I am one of the happiest human beings today on earth because it was not easy going through this situation and coming out alive"
Yardolo who is originally from Nimba which shares borders with Guinea and Ivory Coast resides at St. Paul's Bridge community, Monrovia which had become the last "hotspot" for Ebola cases in Monrovia and was admitted to the Chinese-run Ebola treatment center in the Paynesville district on February 18th.

Speaking with reporters, Tolbert Nyenswah, Assistant Health Minister and head of the country's Ebola response said that there were no other confirmed cases of Ebola in the country, as such Liberia can begin to count up to 42 days to be declared Ebola free in keeping with World Health Organization protocols and standards.
About 10,000 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak was discovered a year ago, but while cases have began to dwindle in Guinea and Liberia, new cases continue to emerge in Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone government revealed that nine new cases were reported in a 24-hour period.
