Suspected Congo Ebola victims test negative

Felix Kabange, Health Minister, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), said 600 people who fell sick on Saturday and were suspected to have contracted have tested negative for the virus.

Kabange said on Monday in Kinshasa that government and WHO were investigating a possible outbreak about 270 km northeast of the capital.

He said the hunters developed Ebola-like symptoms after eating a sick antelope. Kabange said the symptoms included diarrhoea, vomiting and bloody urine and four of the hunters have died.

"All of the samples are negative. There is no Ebola epidemic”, he said. Congo has had more outbreaks of the disease than any other country.

"Since December 2013, the virus has killed more than 11,200 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in the worst Ebola epidemic on record", he said.
