Dasuki’s father, a former Sultan of Sokoto, died on Monday, November 14, at the age of 93.

“As his counsel, we are not aware of that offer. Our client has not told us anything of that nature," Raji said.

“We would have expected that if such a gesture was going to be made to him we as his counsel should have been involved so that we can advise him properly. As I am speaking to you, I am hearing of this for the first time,” he added.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau had said on Tuesday, November 15, that Dasuki declined an opportunity to pay his last respects to his father.

"We had discussed with the Director-General, DSS, yesterday and Sambo was offered to visit his late father on his hospital bed in Abuja,” Dambazau said while speaking to journalists in Sokoto.

"He declined and said he preferred to pray for him. He was also offered to be in Sokoto throughout the mourning period and he also declined, preferring to pray for his late father. That was the true situation,” he added.

Dasuki has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since December 2015 after he was arrested on money laundering charges.
