According to a passenger, who recounted the ordeal on Twitter, the door had been rattling throughout the flight and eventually pulled off as the plane was taxing at the airport.

"Flew Dana. Exit door was unstable throughout the flight. As we touched down, it fell off. Scary stuff." the passenger identified as Ola Brown had tweeted via his handle - @NaijaFlyingDr.

Following the public condemnation that Brown's tweet generated, Dana responded in a press statement to clarify the reports, saying the emergency door could not have fallen off if it had not been opened by a passenger.

The airline is often criticised for the poor maintenance of its planes, which has caused the death of many passengers.
