Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has said that Boko Haram terrorists might have hidden the missing Chibok girls in underground prisons in Sambisa Forest.

Shettima therefore urged the military to look beyond the surface for the missing girls.

The governor made the statement on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, while presenting a paper at a two-day post-election conference on security and governance in Abuja.

"We are suspecting that Chibok girls are living with the insurgents in bunkers, I think the military must carry out their operations beyond the surface earth,” Shettima said.

“They (Boko Haram) were also known to have dug tunnels to enable them move from house to house. So, having been left unchallenged for such a long time, such possibilities cannot be ruled out which poses serious obstacles within the forest, “he added.

Shettima also said that the devastation in the North-East could only be repaired if the military cleared the forest of terrorists.

The military, last month, rescued about 1000 women and children from the forest but the missing Chibok girls are not believed to be among the captives.

The Chibok girls were abducted on April 14, 2014, and most of them remain in captivity.
