Troops find large amount of foreign currency on slain terrorist commander [PHOTOS]

The commander, who was said to belong to the Amir cadre of the sect, was killed on Saturday, May 23, 2015 after soldiers repelled an attempted terrorist invasion in Mafa, Borno State.

Nigerian troops have found a large amount of foreign currency on a Boko Haram commander who was killed in battle near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.

This was disclosed by Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade in a statement released on Monday, May 25.

Olukolade also said that 29 other insurgents were killed in the battle in Mafa.

The statement reads in part:

“Thousands of Euro currency was found on the body of a terrorist commander after troops successfully repelled terrorists on Mafa towards the border.”

“The terrorist, who was also an Amir by status and believed to be of foreign descent, was among about 30 terrorist fighters who died in the encounter while many others fled with wounds.”

“The terrorists also lost a number of weapons and equipment including the captured 13 rifles, a machine gun, rocket-propelled grenade tubes and several other assorted ammunition.”

“The only casualty on the side of our own troops was damaged equipment. Mopping-up operations are ongoing in the general area.”

Olukolade also said that the war against the terrorists was ongoing in all their hideouts.
