Soldiers kill 49 terrorists, rescue 150 captives in Borno

Soldiers of the Nigerian Army have killed 49 Boko Haram members during an operation in Borno State, the army has said.

This was disclosed on Thursday, December 17, 2015, by spokesperson for “Operation Lafiya Dole”, Major General Yusha'u Abubakar during a press conference in Maiduguri, the state capital.

“It is important to announce that our gallant troops conducted various operations along Bama-Fulka and Alagarno areas of Borno State, which yielded fruitful results in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram elements,” Abubakar said.

“During the episode, the troops had an encounter with some terrorists, who suffered serious casualties.In the Alagarno axis, 15 insurgents were gunned down while 34 others were killed along Bama-Fulka Road.

“The troops have also rescued 150 people, mostly old men and women, as well as children.The captives who were abducted from their homes by the terrorists, were being held as human shields.

“Let me make it clear that Boko Haram has been degraded and weakened by the military after a series of assaults, and the morale of our troops has been very high.

“Nigerians are very impressed by the performance of the task force in recent times. The military has no time to waste but to crush the remnants of the terrorists and move forward,” Abubakar added.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the military to defeat the sect in December 2015.
