Cameroonian soldiers have recaptured the town of Goshi in Borno State, Nigeria from Boko Haram, an official says.

The soldiers are also said to have killed 162 terrorists and rescued about 100 persons who were being held captive by the sect, AP reports.

This was disclosed by Cameroon’s Communications Minister, Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

“During this victorious assault 162 Boko Haram terrorists were neutralized, four artisan mine factories were dismantled, a previously identified training centre was set ablaze, war weapons seized,” he said according to Voice of America.

“The operation led by Cameroon special forces also led to the release of hundreds of people held hostage by Boko Haram. Several Nigerian hostages were also freed," he added.

Bakary also said that two members of Cameroon's military were killed during the operation.

Cameroon has suffered Boko Haram attacks due to its shared border with Nigeria where the sect largely operates.
