‘I must donate my allowance to Osun workers,’ Senator responds to attacks

Bruce made the statement after he was attacked by the Osun State Government for offering to give half of the allowance to workers in the state who haven’t been paid for seven months.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has said that no one can stop him from donating his wardrobe allowance to those in need.

The Senator expressed his resolve in a series of tweets posted on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

He said.

“I’ll take whatever attacks come my way but nothing & nobody can dissuade me from doing what my conscience directs in helping my fellow man. The month of Ramadan is here. Many unpaid workers will fast. With what will they break their fast? I thought of that and it moved me to act.”

“I may not be a Muslim, but I respect Islam and I believe that it is wrong for me to respond to any attack during the Holy month of Ramadan. I wish the Muslim Ummah a successful fast. Please pray for God’s intervention in Nigeria so that peace may return. Ramadan Kareem.”

The government of Osun had accused Bruce of playing to the gallery and making a mockery of the workers’ dilemma after he made the offer.
