UPDATE: Major General Letam Wiwa has denied reports that he was arrested in connection with the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud.

The younger brother of late Ogoni rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa has reportedly been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud.

Major General Wiwa is currently being detained at a military facility in Abuja, Vanguard reports.

Wiwa served as Principal Staff Officer under former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki and as DMI under former Chief of Army Staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika.

Both Dasuki and Ihejirika have been linked with the fraud through which officials are believed to have systematically laundered sums meant for the procurement of arms for Nigeria’s military.

The former NSA was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the following day.

Dasuki is said to have further alleged that ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan was aware of the transactions he made. Jonathan has however denied authorizing the release of the stated funds.

Dasuki was released on bail from Kuje Prison in December 2015 but was soon re-arrested by the DSS.
