APC youths condemn Gov over attack on Peterside

The group also accused the Rivers state Governor of working hard to tarnish Peterside’s reputable image.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.

The group also accused Wike of working hard to tarnish Peterside’s reputable image.

According to Vanguard, the group said “Reading a recent attack on the person of Dr Peterside, Director-General, NIMASA, by Governor Wike, through one Simeon Nwakudu, is rather unfortunate but both Peterside and Wike, their personalities, motives in the respective portfolios they hold are in the public domain for everyone to judge.

“President Buhari had acknowledged NIMASA’s encouraging performance under Peterside, especially in the fight against sea piracy through inter agency cooperation. There is indeed a new NIMASA under Peterside and it is a story of hard work. The agency has a new direction unlike the cash cow it was during the last administration where NIMASA was their ATM and the waterways were one of the most dangerous in Africa.

“Governor Wike is ignorant of the role of NIMASA, so he should read and understand the functions of what maritime is all about, I am sure he will join to celebrate the pride of our country.

“While Governor Wike has borrowed over N150 billion under two years as governor, Peterside has moved NIMASA to a giant revenue earner for the country. Also, while the governor is busy revoking Certificates of Occupancy of business chains in Rivers State, Peterside is pursuing Nigeria’s common good and creating jobs for thousands of Nigerians including Rivers natives.”

According to reports, Governor Wike had earlier belittled Peterside's appointment as the Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
