School principals apologise to Oyo Gov over demonstration

The group of teachers and students had demonstrated over speculations that the government had sold their schools.

This is contained in a statement signed by Ranti Obafunmiso and Mathew Ogunkunle, the state Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

According to them, the apology is on behalf of principals, teachers and students of schools across the state.

Obafunmiso and Ogunkunle said that the association dissociated its members from any group or association that might have instigated the students to embark on the ugly incident.

``ANCOPPS wishes to tender its unreserved apology to Oyo State Government on behalf of all principals, teachers and students of all public secondary schools in the state on the violent incident that happened on June 6.

``The incident threatened the peace and security of the state and endangered the lives of the students, who participated in the breach of peace and affront on constituted authority,’’ they said.

They said the association condemned the act and reiterated their stance as ambassadors and advocate of moral uprightness and good conduct.

The chairman and secretary pledged the association’s support and cooperation to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi-led administration, urging him to accept its apology.

NAN reports that some secondary school students in the state had on June 6 took to the street to protest against government’s planned public/private participatory management of schools in the state.

However, the state government had strongly denied the allegations, describing it as baseless and unfounded.
