First lady mourns Osotimehin

Aisha Buhari sent a condolence message through her twitter handle saying the news of Osotimehin’s death came as a rude shock.

Mrs Buhari, who sent a condolence message through her twitter handle on Monday, said that the news of Osotimehin’s death came as a rude shock.

She, therefore, prayed almighty God to grant the family and UNFPA the fortitude to bear the loss.

“The news of his death came as a rude shock and his passing away is a great loss to Us all.

“Myself and the Future Assured team mourn his demise; he will indeed be greatly missed.

“I pray Almighty God to grant his family, the UNFPA the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss."

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, Osotimehin was born on Feb. 6, 1949 in Ogun State.

NAN also reports that the late Prof. Osotimehin, graduated from University of Ibadan.

He was appointed as the Executive Director of UNFPA on Dec. 19, 2010 after serving as the Federal Minister of Health.

He had previously served as the Director-General, National Action Committee Against Aids (NACA) in Nigeria.
