Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin has been the centre of controversy in recent times due to allegations of budget padding that he is levelling against his colleagues.

According to Jibrin, Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and 12 other reps, conspired to smuggle N284 billion into the budget.

Jibrin has also reported the case to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and is calling for the arrest and imprisonment of the accused persons.

The former appropriation committee chairman has been in the House for five years but is not well known to many Nigerians.

Here are 7 things you should know about Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin:

  1. He was born on September 9, 1976 in Kano.

  2. He was elected into the House of Representatives at the age of 34 in 2011.

  3. He represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State.

  4. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Abuja, M.Sc in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a PhD in International Relations also from Abuja.

  5. He defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December, 2013.

  6. He was re-elected into the House in 2015 and attempted to become Speaker but failed.

  7. He was removed from the position of Appropriation Committee Chairman on July 20, 2016.
