The record 7.44 trillion naira budget was submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari in December, 2016.

Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara

The speaker confirmed this while speaking at plenary on Friday, June 9, 2017, marking two years of the 8th House of Reps.

While addressing his colleagues, he said, "On issue of Budget, we kept our promise to Nigerians at the beginning of the legislative session to ensure transparent deliberation and passage of the 2017 Appropriations Bill which will be signed into law early next week."

The record 7.44 trillion naira budget was submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2016, and passed by parliament on May 11, 2017.

The budget is likely to be signed by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who has been Acting President since President Buhari embarked on a medical leave to London on May 7.

Debates about who will sign the budget surfaced last month with Information Minister, Lai Mohammed being forced to deny reports he had said that a decision was yet to be reached on whose signature will appear on the document.
