FRSC boss urges Lagos state to establish Mobile Traffic Courts
The Traffic Management and Transportation Summit kicked off yesterday.
Tagged “Tackling Current, Evolving And Future Traffic Management Needs Of Lagos State,” it was opened by Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, who gave the welcome speech.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode followed by saying some fantastic things about his administration's plan to tackle traffic crisis.
Then, Marshal and Chief Executive of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),Boboye Oyeyemi, spoke on the transportation in Lagos state.
According to him, Lagos accounts for about 70% of Nigeria’s transportation network and over 30% of vehicular density in Nigeria.
This could explain the horrible state of traffic.
He went on to provide solutions to the traffic congestion in Lagos by saying that full enforcement of traffic laws and regulations is the best way to tackle traffic gridlock.
Oyeyemi also called on the State Government to establish Mobile Traffic Courts as this would further boost traffic enforcement.
He called on other enforcement agencies to form a synergy that will eradicate traffic.
Other speakers included people from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and so on.
Dr. Gboyega Banjo, a traffic management expert who worked with the World Bank for 17 years, presented the lead paper.
Do you think mobile courts will boost traffic enforcement?
