FRSC urges religious leaders to encourage followers to use speed limiter device

Pastors, Imams and other religious leaders have been urged to encourage their followers to comply with the use of speed limiting devices.

Speed limit

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the command’s Head of Operations in the state, Malam Salisu Galadunci, appealed to religious leaders to encourage the use of these devices.

According to him, this move will ensure success because followers often listen to their leaders.

"We equally want to involve the religious leaders in the campaign because thousands of people listen to their sermons and exhortations on daily basis.

Thousands of Muslim faithful gather at Friday’s Jumat service usually led by imams just as same Christians do during Sunday church services usually led by pastors.

This is outside other daily gatherings for prayers or fellowships by members of both denominations.

We want to leverage on the influences the religious bodies have on their followers to deepen the awareness campaign, and ensure compliance before the enforcement date,’’ he said.

Galadunci urged Nigerians to take this device seriously because of it's many benefits, which include ensuring zero fatality, during accidents.

"The device will also reduce fuel consumption by vehicles. It will be environmentally friendly to users by reducing carbon emissions among other benefits," he added.

The FRSC head of operations also said the agency was working hard to raise awareness before the October 1, 2016 deadline.

“We have gone to motor parks, social gatherings, streets, offices and engaged radio and television stations to enlighten vehicle owners on the gains of installing the speed limiter device in their vehicles,’ he revealed.
