Market capitalisation sheds N43bn

Equities segment of the Nigerian Stock Exchange witnessed a weak bargain yesterday, closing on a negative note for the second straight day.

The market capitalisation of listed equities declined by N43 billion or 0.3 per cent from N11.470 trillion to N11.427 trillion, while the NSE All-Share Index fell by 124.25 basis points or 0.37 per cent to close at 33,478.42 basis points.

Also, the NSE 30 Index dipped by 0.32 per cent from 1,534.94 basis points to 1,529.97 basis points.

Similarly, the NSE Banking Index depreciated by 0.5 per cent from 372.25 basis points to 370.44 basis points.

Of the NSE indices, only the Consumer Goods Index appreciated on Wednesday. It rose by 0.15 per cent to close at 853.02 basis points. The NSE Alternative Securities Market Index, however, closed unchanged at 1,211.52 basis points.

In all, 204.993 million stocks worth N7.404bn were traded on Wednesday in 3,700 deals with 22 stocks rising and 24 others declining.
