Passengers stranded as airline workers embark on strike
Passengers stranded at airport as Arik workers embark on unannounced strike.
Eyewitnesses tell that cabin crew members of Arik commenced an unannounced strike on Friday, December 22, 2017.
A host of passengers waiting to depart Lagos, Abuja and a few other cities for the Christmas holiday were caught off guard and seen stranded at departure lounges, according to sundry reports now filtering into the Pulse newsroom.
Unconfirmed reports say Arik workers downed tools because their salaries hadn’t been increased.
Poor practices
Arik has been facing hard times in recent times.
In February of 2017, the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON)took over the runningof Arik as the airline threatened to go under; with years of bad practices ostensibly catching up with the airline.
Calls placed to Arik’s public complaints unit regarding the recent grounding of its operations, were unanswered before this story made it to press.
