State government announces N25, 000 Land Use Charge

The Ogun state government is commencing the implementation of a N25,000 levy on residences.

The Ogun state government is implementing of a N25,000 Land Use Charge on residences.

Yele Ogundipe, the Commissioner for Finance, made this announcement at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure.

“It is going to be flat charge of N25, 000 for non-commercial residence but landlord of a house used for commercial purposes will have to pay more. The State Government took into consideration, the sizes of buildings (bungalow, mansion) in the state but decided that it would be a flat rate for all sizes to eliminate the issue of discretion and corruption in the system."

“It was also for the purpose of blocking IGR linkage. People have been issued notices in the past and implementation should have started and as responsible government we have decided that we ought to carry along our people before implementation begins.

“You voted us in because you believe in our ability to administer. We do not want to take you for granted and that is why we are holding this consultation so that people can be part of the decision to implement the Land Use Charge.”

“It is noteworthy to say that the corporation is confident of making houses available to the residents of the state as the proposed budget estimates for 2016 are all encompassing to make this a reality."
