According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Information, Mr Steve Ayorinde, this is a necessary action for the government.
State government to remove Okadas from certain streets
Lagos state is working very hard to restrict motorcyles, popularly known as 'Okadas', to certain streets.
The commissioner also revealed why the government has been taking it's time with this.
"But no matter how desirable the idea might be, it is important to consider the implications on the generality of people riding okada; what alternatives are there, but we know for a fact that the alternatives are there.
So, we will look at all the arguments and we will do that which is needful," Ayorinde said.
Despite this, the spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, SP Oladapo Badmos, said the command is doing it's very best.
“We impounded 334 motorcycles between Jan.1 and April 29.
We have intensified effort to clear every prohibited road of motorcycles,” she said.
Okadas have been restricted to only 500 roads, out of the 9,000, that exist in the state.
