Based on an order from the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA),  demolished an illegal building at Mende area in Maryland over the weekend.

The LASBCA’s General Manager, Mr. Sola Adeigbe, revealed that this particular building was illegally constructed, as no permit was obtained from the agency before commencement of work on the site, adding that it was built on a  road setback.

He urged Lagosians not to begin constructions without obtaining permit from the agency, as the these type of illegal buildings will be demolished without compensation for the owner because "in the first place, it was not supposed to be there “.

The owner of the illegal building, who spoke under anonymity to Vanguard, claimed ignorance as her excuse explaining that she was not aware that she was supposed to have gotten a permit from the agency before commencing development.
