Road traffic crashes (RTC) have been identified as a leading cause of epilepsy in Nigeria.

According to Dr
“Now we see epilepsy in a lot of young adults because of people falling off commercial bicycles, popularly called okada. They were not wearing crash helmets. So, we need to need make people aware of this. Properly worn helmets are said to reduce serious head injuries by 70 per cent and deaths almost by 40 per cent.”
Last year, the Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, attributed a reduction in Nigeria's GDP to RTCs.
He said Nigeria loses 3% of it's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to these accidents.
