Herbert Wigwe was stunned beyond words when he was announced the best bank CEO in Nigeria at the 2016 edition of the BusinessDay Banking Awards.
The awards ceremony held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Friday, September 10, 2016 with several bank representatives in attendance.
Wigwe was presented with his award by the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro, who represented the Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Anchored by Alibaba with musical interlude from Dare Art Alade, Wigwe was stunned beyond words when he was announced the best bank CEO.
Speaking on the achievement, Wigwe said it should not take many as a surprise because he and his team have put so much into building Access bank into one of the biggest banks in Nigeria and West Africa.
Dedicating the award to God and the entire team of Access Bank staff, Wigwe stressed that the best is yet to come and he promises to do more.
The award came with a return ticket from Air France to any destination in the world, which was presented by the regional director of Air France.
Other winners at the awards ceremony include UBA for best Agricultural bank; First Bank for Best corporate social responsibility; Zenith bank for manufacturing sector; Union Bank for most improved in retail banking; Zenith bank for best bank in corporate banking; GTBank for best bank for SME; First Bank for customer friendly; Ranch Merchant Bank for deal of the year; Diamond bank for innovative product of the year.
