We’ll Get The Girls Back In "Near Future" - Foreign Affairs Minister

The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali has said that the abducted Chibok girls would be released in the "very near future."

Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali has said that the government is taking steps to ensure that the over 200 abducted Chibok schoolgirls are released in the "very near future".

Wali said this today, October 21, during a news conference in Berlin where he met with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, AFP reports.

The minister stated:

"I can say with optimism, with cautious optimism that we are headed toward the moment where we are going in the very near future, be able to get our girls,"

"There has been tremendous progress in the discussions are still going on now, with the possibility of a total cessation of hostilities, the return of girls and a return to normal in this part of northern Nigeria,"

Steinmeier, on the other hand, expressed his pleasure at the fact that Nigeria was "able to report progress in discussions" with Boko Haram and hoped that "the release of the girls will be possible."

The German minister and his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius are expected to visit Nigeria next weekend as Germany is planning to build four solar power plants in the north.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh announced on Friday, October 17 that the country had reached a ceasefire deal with terrorist sect Boko Haram after negotiations which took place in Saudi Arabia.
