Grammy Awards winner, Israel Houghton, 44, has announced that he and his wife, Meleasa Houghton have officially divorced after 20 years of marriage.

He rendered an apology to all the people who have supported him, making clear his regrets having failed in his responsibility and societal expectations in maintaining a good moral value based on the image which he represents
He made this declaration on his Facebook page admitting that prior to the moment of the divorce, he and Meleasa have been dealing with the consequences of his infidelity, thanking everyone who have supported his ministry.
“It is with a collective heavy heart that we announce that after over 20 years of marriage and a long separation, Meleasa and I are officially divorced. Several years ago I failed and sinned in my marriage.
He mentioned that they have been handling the situation privately in a bid to protect their children and ward off the preying eyes of the public in the hope for reconciliation.
"We have always handled our family and ministry with grace and generosity toward others, discretion, and privacy,
"So, for the sake of our amazing kids, we are also handling this privately with pastoral oversight and assistance.
Houghton also said that the overwhelming challenges which have emerged has resulted to the couple making the decision to finally separate from each other.
"Although we tried, the challenges in our relationship have proven too much to overcome,
They have however agreed to maintain a good relationship with each other, as wrote in his post saying, We choose to remain friendly and kind to each other going forward.

He said, "As this has become a public matter I want to apologize to the many who have supported my ministry through the years,
"I’m sorry for the many who will be hurt to learn of my personal failure. I regret any pain or disappointment that this news may cause you."
On the music side of things, Houghton is known for his cross-cultural style of Christian music that fuses elements from gospel, jazz, rock and reggae.
