HBO cancels show, withdraws plan for season 2

Created by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, the series follows the sordid lives of musicians and record label executives in New York in the 70s.

"After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with the second season of "Vinyl," HBO said in a statement. "Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project."

By the end of the first season in April, HBO announced that Scott Z. Burns will replace Terence Winter as showrunner.

"Vinyl" was created nearly two decades ago as a feature film before it was turned into a series in 2015.

The decision to end the series comes after HBO's big transition in its programming office. In May, Michael Lombardo stepped down as programming president after nearly 10 years and was replaced by HBO’s former head of comedy, Casey Bloys. ALSO READ:undefined
