Actress talks character in "Fifty", greatest challenge interpreting role, what makes movie unique

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Nigeria, the actress spoke about her character Kate, challenges interpreting the role, Nigerians being ready for "Fifty," Similarities between character and herself, and more.

“Fifty” speaks about the lives of women, and how they deal with turning fifty.

On her character;

“I think my character will call out to all single women, because there’s always that point in life when you feel all is failing, and you are asking for a faith smaller than a mustard seed.”

“My greatest challenge was trying to be her, understanding her and not judging her.”

“The director. It was Biyi Bandele, and it was different. It was someone just bringing women together, just showcasing a city.”

“I don’t want to talk too much, I just want people to watch it.”

“I say we watch other movies, don’t we? And why not “Fifty? When is a good time? There’s never a good time. If you want to say something, you either tell the truth because there’s no good time to say the truth.

The movie which was directed by Biyi Bandele, has emerged the highest ever opening weekend in Nigerian cinema release.

A star studded premiere of held on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos Nigeria.

Synopsis.

'Fifty' captures a few pivotal days in the lives of four Nigeria women at the pinnacle of their careers. Meet Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate four friends forced at midlife to take inventory of their personal lives, while juggling careers and family against the sprawling backdrops of the upper middle-class neighbourhoods of Ikoyi and Victoria Island in Lagos.

Tola is a reality TV star whose marriage to lawyer Kunle never stood a chance thanks to an invidious family secret.

Elizabeth is a celebrated obstetrician whose penchant for younger men has estranged her from her daughter.

Forty-nine year-old Maria has an affair with a married man that results in an unexpected pregnancy and Kate’s battle with a life-threatening illness has plunged her into religious obsession.
