Show returns for 3rd season, kills off major character

As promised, "Empire" is back for its 3rd season, settling its season 2 cliffhanger by killing off a major character.

Empire returns for season 3

The drama about a family dynasty, "Empire" returned for a new season on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

In season two finale, Lucious got married to Anika to prevent her from testifying against him. The season also ended with the possible death of a Lyon.

On Wednesday night, Rhonda Lyon was revealed as the one who fell off the balcony during the cliffhanger fight with Anika. 

Following Rhonda's death, Andre grabs Anika and starts to choke her, fortunately for her, her water breaks. Cookie tries to console a devastated Andre, who reveals he is 'done with God.'

Anika gives birth to a baby girl, angering Lucious Lyon who was expecting a baby boy. To make their marriage real, Anika moves into the Lyon mansion.

Tired of all the drama, Cookie demands for her space. She asks Lucious to allow her handle Empire’s music, while he handles Empire’s business and they stay out of each other’s business. A demand he says yes to.

The episode ends with Lucious opening up to Bella about how he is scamming Tariq. Unfortunately for him, Tariq has a camera installed in one of Bella’s teddy bears, and can definitely hear everything.

Before the premiere episode, on the third season, stating that something bad is really going to happen.

"In the premiere, there is a lot of heartbreak to come. A lot of betrayal will occur. They have told me that much, so I know something really bad is going to happen. I just hope Lucious survives it," he had said.

"Empire" centers around a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company.

"Empire" which revolves around the Lyon family and their media company, Empire Entertainment, stars  Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere “Yazz” Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey, Kaitlin Doubleday, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones and Serayah McNeill.
