The talented Kaline was introduced to the world of Jazz at the age of thirteen, coincidentally, at thirteen she wrote her first song.

Born Kaline Akinkugbe, her passion for music was identified at a very tender age.

Courtesy of her mother’s love for Jazz, Kaline was introduced to the world of Jazz at the age of thirteen, coincidentally, at thirteen she wrote her first song.

Her case was no different from other aspiring musicians; her parents wanted her to go to school and have a ‘proper’ education.

This saw her study economics at the University after which her passion for music made her enrol to study music. And this time, the family supported her decision.

Life in the music industry was not easy at first but eventually she found her niche in the market.

Her main concern was on developing her brand of music that would bear the messages that she sought to present in her songs. She poses that; “Having no representation on my own has been hard, but it’s paid off.”

The need to excel drove her to seek greater exposure in the music world.

The desire to be the best has seen her draw inspiration from some of the greatest in the music arena, and she even confesses that the experience has been a wonderful one where she has learned to infuse almost all the styles into her music.

Her lack of conformity is inherent in her responses to the question on her type of music;

“I haven’t figured out how to put myself in a box. I’ve been influenced by so many different genres, there’s classical in there, jazz fusion, then I do the chorus in my songs in Yoruba, so there’s the African side of it.

"I’m heavily influenced by Lagbaja and Fela regarding their rhythmic content, so I guess I’ll say Afro Soul Jazz.”

The fact that she is non-conformist in her music has set Kaline apart from any ordinary artist in the industry and for her, this greatness should not be reserved for herself rather it should be used for the good of the entire society.

She has not forgotten to use her musical presence to inspire and encourage people.

For instance, she argued that Nigerian filmmakers should consider the importance of music in their films to make them memorable.

She quips on the importance of dramatic orchestration in movies.

Kaline seeks to create an inspirational brand that empowers the ordinary person.

In fact, she says that “As we all know, music is such a powerful tool that can be used for good and bad. And I just choose to use mine for the absolute good of the world and bring about change.”

As the world sings her tunes, she hopes to touch a heart here and heart there through her music and as a result, encourage an individual.
