TV series based on movie is in the works

2006 crime thriller "The Departed," which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon, is being adapted into a TV series.

The Departed

According to Variety,  the TV series will be based on the 2006 movie which is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs."

Set in modern-day Chicago, the TV series will focus on the story of a young police officer who goes undercover to infiltrate a Latino gang.

The Martin Scorsese film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio alongside  Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga, Anthony Anderson, and Alec Baldwin, won four Academy Awards, including best director, best picture, and best editing.

The 2006 movie focused on characters loosely based on famous gangster Whitey Bulger and corrupt FBI agent John Connolly.

It brought in over $289 million at the global box office.

Other movies being made into a TV series include "Lethal Weapon," "Salt," "Taken," among others.
