Bukky Ajayi, Sadiq Daba awarded 'Industry Merit Award'

It was an emotional night for Veteran Bukky Ajayi, who received the award in tears while asking "You all standing for me?"

The actress was announced as recipient of the award alongside talented veteran Sadiq Daba, who was absent. The duo earned the award for their contribution to the growth of the Nigerian film industry.

A standing ovation greeted the announcement of the 82-year-old  actress who was wheeled to the stage to receive her award.

Speaking on stage, Ajayi apologised to those she has offended, and stated that she has forgiven those that offended her.

With tears in her eyes, she asked "You all standing for me?"  “It’s an honour to see you all standing for me but I cannot stand myself. If I do, I’m going to fall," she added.

Ajayi who is popular for her role in movies like "Elastic Limit," "Diamond Ring," "Witches," "Mother of George,"

turned 82 on February 2, 2016.

Sadiq Daba won Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2015 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) which held on Saturday, September 26, 2015.

He is most popular for his role as Bitrus in the 1970s drama series “Cockcrow at Dawn.”  He has also  starred in films and soap operas including: "Behind the Clouds", "A Place like Home", "Soweto", and "Moment of Truth".
