Kogi governor denies rumours of ill-health

The denial was made by Bello's spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo via a statement released on Sunday, November 6.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state

The reports are said to have been sparked by Bello’s two-week absence from public functions.

The denial was made on the governor’s behalf by his spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo via a statement released on Sunday, November 6.

“My attention has been drawn to the spurious rumour that there are concerns over the health of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.”

“I want to state clearly here for the avoidance of doubt that the rumour lacks any iota of truth. It is a reflection of the depth the enemies of Kogi State have gone in their desperate angst against fate.

“The governor is hale and hearty, healthy and unwavering in his vigour to make Kogi State the Confluence of Excellence. I urge all Kogites of goodwill to discountenance the rumour as His Excellency will return from his two weeks break on the 12th of November, 2016.”

Bello’s governorship was upheld by the Supreme Courton Tuesday, September 20, after being challenged by Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and James Faleke.

Faleke was originally the running mate of late APC candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar in the November 21, 2015, elections in the state.

Audu died on November 22, 2015, after contesting alongside Faleke in the polls which were subsequently declared inconclusive.

Bello was then chosen by the APC under authorization by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) while Faleke was chosen to be his deputy

Faleke however refused to fill the position insisting instead that he be sworn in as governor since Bello didn't contest in the initial election.
