‘Like Buhari, El-zakzaky deserves oversea medical treatment’ [PHOTOS]

The group dismissed claims that the government had spent N5 million on El-Zakzaky's treatment since his detention.

‘Like Buhari, El-zakzaky deserves oversea medical treatment,’ says Shiites

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have said that their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zazkazy has the right to seek medical treatment in any country of his choice like President Muhammadu Buhari.

El-Zakzaky and the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki have remained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) despite court orders for their relases.

Speaking at a protest in Abuja, the Shiite members called for the immediate release of their leader who according to them is in need of urgent medical attention.

The group dismissed comments by Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu that El-Zazkazy was hale and hearty.

The group noted that there are no good medical facilities in Nigeria.

The Shiite members also debunked Federal Government’s claims that they had spent N5 million on El-Zakzaky’s health.

“It would be recalled that the DSS detained Sheik El-Zazkazy once claimed that he is being kept in a protective custody and according to their lawyer, it was the DSS responsibility to provide him protection,” spokesman of the group, A.I Ahmed told .

“They further claimed that they have spent 5 million on El-Zakzaky’s health.

“Later on, we found out that those claims were false. With these frequent, strategic lies on El-Zakzaky’s health, how can we trust DSS, Garba Shehu or the government?

“It is a known fact that the federal government spent about $1 billion on oversea treatment for government officials.

“In April 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari announced that the government would no longer sponsor public officials on oversea treatment. Today, President Muhammadu Buhari is in London for medication.

“This is to show that there are no good medical facilities in the country. So, why deny El-Zakzaky access to well-equipped medical facilities in any country of his choice?

“The continuous detention of Sheik El-Zakzaky, his wife and others is a violation of their fundamental human rights,” Ahmed added.

The group said they would continue to demand the unconditional release of the leader.

Meanwhile, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed says El-Zakzaky is not in prison.

The minister said El-Zakzaky and his wife are in a house built for them by the federal government.
