Senator calls on business women to join politics

Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna Central has called on business women in the country to join politics.

Shehu Sani

Speaking on Sunday, June 12, 2016 during a meeting with business women drawn from Kaduna South and Chikun Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, the senator said many women don't even know their representatives since 1999.

"A lot of women especially from this part of the state have distance themselves from the people they elect. They don't even know there representatives so how can there voices be heard?” Sani asked.

"Many of the business women don't even know the names of their representatives since 1999. Politics is not as dirty as you think. Politics is not all about having money to contest. If you don't have interest in politics, politics will not have interest in you," Sani said.

"Women, especially those in business must join politics," Shehu Sani said, adding, “everyone here can be a senator."

"Kaduna people in this side of the river are not politically active like the people in the other ride of the River. There is inferiority complex. Out of the people that have come to meet me on one issue or the other, 99 percent of them are from the other side of the river," Sani added.

"Some people think they can only do politics where their religion is the majority. That is not true. If you are good and you have good intention for the masses, they will love you."

"As someone who is now representing Kaduna Central, if I had said I will not contest the election because I don't have money, I won't have been a Senator. I believe in miracle. I told my friends that I will be there and I am a senator today," Sani added.

The Senator called on the women in business to be politically informed adding that it will help in their businesses.

"I am calling on all of you to form co-operatives so that your voices will be heard. My office will handle some of the demands you have brought here and other request will be forwarded to the federal government for quick intervention," Sani added.
