Delta Gov inaugurates issuance of electronic C of O

The governor congratulated the first batch of beneficiaries for taking the advantage of the discount to secure the certificate.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State

Chief Dan Okenyi, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, at the event on behalf of the governor in Asaba, on Saturday distributed the C of O to the first batch of beneficiaries.

Okowa said that the presentation of the certificate was in line with the Delta Fast-Track 90 days progamme launched on March 31.

He said that the 90-day programme guaranteed the issuance of the C of O at the payment of N200,000 within 90 days of the application.

He added that new applicants would have to pay N225, 000 in the next 90 days to obtain the certificate.

Okowa warned land owners with the old C of O paper to regularise their document at the cost of N50, 000 within the next 90 days or consider their certificate invalid.

He promised that approval of building plans in the state would be granted within 24 hours at the payment of the relevant fees.

"The owners of the old C of O in the state have 90 days to migrate and after the period, government will take it that they have no C of O," he said.

He said that modalities had been put in place to regularise documents of all who built on government land in Okpanam within the State Capital Territory to ensure that people have the valid titles.

The governor said that about 2,000 applications were being processed, adding that about 150 certificates were ready for collection.

He said that the issuance of the certificate would be done on weekly basis and the names of the beneficiaries would be published as soon as theirs were ready.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Patrick Ukah, Commissioner for Information, commended the Ministry of Land for starting ‘’something new and achieving a huge success.’’

He assured all land owners in the state of the state government commitment to keep to its promise to deliver certificates to all applicants within the period of 90 days.

He commended the media and urged all land owners to key into the programme to secure their land property across the state.

According to him, the certificate will settle every issue relating to lands and give a boost to the value of the land.

"If you reside in Delta and you still have ambiguity about ownership of your land, you have yourself to blame.

"This land document is verifiable on line, so, you can verify the authenticity of your land from anywhere in the World.

"So, people should know that this is done to bring sanity into our land and all related issues and I think we should cooperate with the ministry and regularise our documents," he said.

Earlier, Iku Chuks, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Queensbridge Capital Investment Ltd, partnering with the state government on FastTrack 90, highlighted some of the gains to include value addition to the land.

He said that unlike the former certificate that cost about N420, 000, government had offered a discount of about 55 per cent to applicants to enable them obtain the new electronic C of O.

The deputy chief executive officer described the new C of O as forge proof.

A beneficiary, Mr Frank Nwaogo, lauded the state government for releasing the certificates as promised.

He said that he was not too certain that it was real and that the certificate would come on time, giving several attempts made in the past without success.

"I am very happy that I have these certificates for my two buildings and I feel like dancing," he said.
