Gov's aide advises youths to key into agric programmes

He said that when operational, it would not only boost economic activities but launch the state as one of the major exporters of fish.

Governor of Anambra state, Dr Willie Obiano.

Iloghalu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday that the governor had mapped out training programmes on the various aspects of farming such as fishery, piggery, poultry and root cropping.

He advised unemployed youths in the state to take advantage of the training to improve on themselves and grow economically rather than search for non-existing white collar jobs.

``A fish village will soon be created in all the 21 local government areas to boost fish farming.

``The essence of the fish village is to create wealth, reduce rural poverty and increase the source of protein for the residents, making it available and affordable.

``Agriculture is being re-positioned as the main revenue earner for Anambra and that is why all efforts are being made to ensure that the state becomes one of the major producer of fish,’’ he said.

The adviser said that the fishing village would be built through public-private-partnership arrangement and modeled differently from the traditional ones, where people depended on natural water like rivers and lakes.

“It is hoped that by the time all the programmes on agriculture are unfolded, unemployment will be history in Anambra,’’ he said.
