The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the demand for new dresses for the festivities led to the high patronage of tailors in the area.
Maulud is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal; the third month of Islamic calendar, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
NAN checks showed that tailors are recording high sales at this season of the year despite exorbitant charges.
A cross section of the tailors, who spoke to NAN, expressed joy over the improved patronage of their services.
Malam Usman Bala, a tailor, said he was recording remarkable increase in the number of customers patronising his services in the past weeks.
Ahmed explained that he was charging different rates for sewing, ranging from N500 to N3,500, depending on the type of dress.
“I am happy and making good savings from the trade,” he said.
Haruna Salisu, a resident, said he had purchased new clothing for his children to enable them to celebrate the Maulud in a happy mood.
Salisu, however, decried the exorbitant charges by tailors, adding that they were taking advantage of the situation to exploit customers.
"Prices of textile materials and the charges by tailors are higher than the previous season,” he said.
He called on the tailors to reduce their charges to enable families to celebrate the season with new dresses.
NAN reports that the Hadejia Emirate Council has organised a symbolic durbar billed for Dec. 12, to celebrate the occasion.
Schools, organisations and individuals are also organising series of lectures and prayer sessions to mark the occasion.
