Court dismisses extradition case against Senator

The extradition application against Kashamu was dismissed by Justice Gabriel Kolawole on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

Buruji Kashamu

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed an extradition application filed against Senator Buruji Kashamu by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The application was dismissed by Justice Gabriel Kolawole on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

Kolawole explained, in dismissing the application, that that it would amount to sitting on appeal against the judgments of two of his colleagues, Justices Ibrahim Buba and Okon Abang, of the Lagos division of the court.‎

He also said that the suit before him was an abuse of the processes of the court and that he lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit ‎while the two previous judgments that nullified the extradition process were yet to be set aside by a higher court.

The NDLEA has been in a long-drawn battle with Kashamu May 23, when officials of the agency invaded the Senator’s home in a bid to arrest and extradite him to the US to face drug charges.
