Assembly moves for regulation to guide beach, hotel operators
Jimoh said that the step had become imperative following the death of two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos at Elegushi Beach on June 5.

This followed a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Olumuyiwa Jimoh, on the floor of the house on Monday.
"Beaches in the state should be safe for people to attract visitors. Measures should be put in place to safeguard the beaches.
"Gadgets should be put in place in our beaches. If the regulations are put in place, we will tell the world that we are ready to receive visitors," he said.

Also speaking, Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, Chairman, House Committee on Human Rights, Petitions and Judiciary, called for a sensitisation programme by relevant ministries to educate people on the dangers at beaches.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, however, said the issue should not be limited to beaches, but should also cover hotels.
Obasa said that the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture should come together to prevent incidents claiming the lives of picnickers.
"They (House Committees) should come up with a regulation to monitor the beaches in the state.
"The Ministry of Tourism and Culture should provide equipment to monitor hotels and beaches to ensure safety," he said.

Obasa recalled that a policeman also lost his life in the swimming pool of a hotel in Lekki/Ajah axis of the state recently.
