No fewer than 88 female students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Aliero Local Government area of Kebbi Sate survived chemical attack.

The attack was from chemical fumes sequel to fumigation against termite in the school.

A statement by Alhaji Muazu Abubakar, the Press Secretary to the Governor in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, said that Gov. Atiku Bagudu and top government officials had visited the school to assess the situation.

The statement said that the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Umar Kambaza, told the governor that the students inhaled fumes after the fumigation against termites.

It said the afflicted students were admitted at the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, but a large number of them had been discharged after treatment.

“The governor, during the visit, said that preventive measures will be adopted to protect schools in the state.

“The governor was also at the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital to sympathise with the afflicted students,’’ it said.

The Principal of the School, Hajiya Maryam Gwadangaji, said safety measures had been put in place to keep the students away from any other illness.
