Prostitute narrates ordeal, seek government intervention

Some commercial sex workers in Kaduna have called on government for assistance, one of them narrates her experiences to us on tape.

Speaking to Pulse at Raba Road, Kaduna on Sunday, May 22 2016, she said “If I can get N30, 000.00, honestly I will leave this place,” she said.

“For me, I am a widow that is why I am here. I don’t have someone to help me. It is not that I am happy being here. Some will fuck, after they have finished, they will ask us to refund their money.”

“And we are not trouble makers, so we always refund their money because as we are here, we don’t like trouble,” the widow added.

A single lady said she joined the sex hawking business for lack of job despite her educational qualification.

“I went into prostitution because of lack of job. If I go searching for a job, the job providers will demand sex with a promise of employment. After they are done, they won’t give me the job again,” she said.

“Most times, I will see another person working where they have promised to employ me. That is why I went into prostitution. I have been getting what will sustain me even though I am not happy doing it.”

“I have been making some money to solve my problem. In a day, I make N1, 200. The day I made a lot of money, it will be up to N2, 000,”.

The prostitutes live in locations such as Obalande in Kaduna, Maiduguri Road, Rabah Road, Sultan Road and hotels while some do their businesses in rented apartment.

They are not happy with the situation they have found themselves. They are calling on government, NGOs and civil societies to help them with skill training and acquisition to empower them.
