Charles Abutoh, the Secretary-General of the Oghara Clan Union in the UK, said that Ibori was still in prison despite claims that he had been freed, Daily Truste reports.

“If you imprison someone for stealing, you can’t let them go without telling you what you say they stole. That is the essence of the confiscation trial. Once the trial is concluded and he is able to settle it, he will be released,” Abutoh said.

“They know Ibori sells papers, so some people just sit down and write whatever they like.

“I visited him in prison about three weeks ago and speak with him every other day,” he added.

Earlier reports had it that Ibori was re-arrested over fresh charges bordering on the confiscation of his assets, which were estimated at about 250million pounds.

The former governor was imprisoned in April 2012 after being found guilty of money laundering.
