FG plans to set up national airline

Sirika reportedly said a group of six firms including German carrier Lufthansa would advise the government on setting up an airline.

The Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika. 

In a report by Reuters, the FG has appointed advisers to help it set up a national airline and develop its aviation infrastructure.

In furtherance, an aviation leasing company and a maintenance hanger as well as an avenue for creating concessions to run the country's airports.

To this end, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo reportedly had approved 1.52 billion Naira ($4.99 million) of funding for the project, he added.

AMCON took over the single carrier, Arik Air, in February 2017 and has said it has no plans to convert Arik into a national carrier.
