Fayose has finally gotten the attention he wanted

Fayose’s account was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 20, 2016, days after he bragged that no one could stop him from speaking freely.

Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayose’s account was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 20, 2016, days after he bragged that no one could stop him from speaking freely.

“My personal Account at Zenith Bank has been frozen courtesy of Buhari led APC tyrannical government,” Fayose announced via Twitter.

The governor also described the EFCC’s move as criminal and illegal adding that Section 308 of the 1999 constitution guarantees him immunity.

In defence of the action, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said that the agency has the right to investigate any governor whose account is being used to launder funds, immunity notwithstanding.

“Immunity does not prevent EFCC from investigating suspicious accounts of those enjoying immunity and Fayose cannot be an exception,”he said.

The EFCC investigation of the governor is believed to be connected to allegations that he rigged the June 2014 elections in the state with the help of the military.

The accusation was first made by a soldier, Captain Sagir Koli and then buttressed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insider, Tope Aluko who said that Fayose got $37 million from former president, Goodluck Jonathan to rig the elections.

According to prominent lawyer, Femi Falana, Fayose cannot be protected by the immunity clause this case because he was still a governorship candidate when the offence was committed.

“…Fayose should be tried since he was a candidate and not a governor when the serious electoral offences were committed by him,” Falana said via a statementreleased in February 2016.

It appears that the governor might actually be investigated, and even if he can’t be prosecuted now, justice will be waiting for him at the end of his tenure in 2018.

Fayose has been rambling on and on about how untouchable he is and has even said that anyone who wants to touch him will have to touch God first. Well Mr Fayose, you have finally been touched, how does it feel?
