Abati, Mohammed to remain in EFCC custody indefinitely

The EFCC will also keep Fani-Kayode in custody for 16 more days after filing fresh charges against him.

Dr Reuben Abati

The two were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, October 24, on corruption allegations.

According to the report, the EFCC said investigations into their alleged criminal offences are inconclusive and that they would remain in detention until the Commission is through.

This is coming after the anti-graft agency served the detained former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, with fresh charges over new evidence that he received the sum of N26 million from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Abati is being interrogated for allegedly receiving various sums of money from Dasuki while Mohammed was alleged to have dubiously engaged in a land swap deal which made the FCT lose about N1 trillion.

Earlier, the EFCC had seized four houses worth N872 million, belonging to the former Minister and his son, Shamsudeen.

The anti-graft agency also obtained an interim forfeiture order to confiscate another N650 million houses in Asokoro District of Abuja, owned by Mohammed.

The same forfeiture order was secured to seize the ex-minister’s son’s three duplexes worth N222 million in the Apo Area of Abuja.

Mohammed was also accused of awarding fictitious contracts worth about N1billion, allocation of 12 choice plots worth billions of Naira and 37 other commercial plots of land worth about N8 billion to his suspected front named Tariq Hammoud.
