Thank you, Reddit.

Reddit users swear this cheapo laundry detergent (you can find it at your local hardware or dollar store) does a fabulous job moonlighting as a makeup-brush cleaner.

So, in a Reddit-inspired convo, we asked makeup artist Jamie Greenberg—who keeps her tools busier than anybody—to explain exactly why it's so great. (This product is great for makeup brushes, but what do you use to cleanse your face? Try this everyday cleanser from the Women's Health Boutique!)

"They sell it to get rid of clothing stains, but the bar makes it easy to clean brushes. I hold it under the water and then run my brush back and forth until all the color comes out. Then I rinse with water so no detergent is left."

IT DOESN'T IRRITATE SKIN, EVEN THOUGH IT'S A LAUNDRY SOAP?

"I have supersensitive skin, so I test everything out on myself first and I've never had any problems, nor have my clients."

DOES IT WORK FOR ALL BRUSHES?

"I use synthetic and natural brushes plus BeautyBlender sponges, and I wash my tools after each client, so I go through a bar a month. It gets everything out, and the hairs haven't lost any smoothness!"
