Bow down to the Queen.

Meryl Streep won the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in acting at the Golden Globes, but it was her acceptance speech that’s still blowing people away.

In her speech, the 67-year-old actress called out president-elect Donald Trump without ever mentioning him by name. “There was one performance this year that stunned me. It, it sank its hooks in my heart,” she said, referring to the President-elect mocking a disabled New York Times reporter in 2015.

“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” she said. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

Meryl got a standing applause for her comments, but this isn’t the first time she’s made powerful statements off-screen. Here are our favorites:

On equality:

“There’s another specific challenge facing women and girls right now: We’re viewed as equals—but we’re still not there yet. For the first time, we have the expectation that we can have a broad array of choices, that we could lead in almost any part of society. And yet we face resistance. We see that here at home in our government – in the House and the Senate. We see that in our boardrooms. We see that in Hollywood. The challenge for our girls, I think, is dealing with that resistance. How can we lift and defuse it, how do we make it so our equality is not so threatening? Our girls are going to have to contend with that. I content with it right now in every realm I operate in.”MORE, 2015

On gender norms:

“This act of empathy, that women go through from the time we’re little girls—we read all of literature, all of history, it’s really about boys, most of it. But I can feel more like Peter Pan than Tinker Bell, or like Wendy. I wanted to be Tom Sawyer, not Becky. And we’re so used to that act of empathizing with the protagonist of a male-driven plot. I mean, that’s what we’ve done all our lives. You read history, you read great literature, Shakespeare, it’s all fellas, you know?” —Women in the World Summit, 2015

On the power of love:

“You can’t strategize falling in love. It’s never worked. People love you the most and set you up, and it doesn’t work because you can’t predict these things. You fall in love serially. That something turns up on your doorstep that turns you on…”Time, 2016

On how Hollywood treats older women:

"I remember when I turned 40, I was offered, within one year, three different witch roles. To play three different witches in three different contexts. It was almost like the world was saying or the studios were saying, 'We don't know what to do with you.'"NPR, 2012.

On breaking stereotypes:

"What I try to do is deepen the humanity of each woman that I play. It comes from some kind of aggrieved part of my childhood where I felt disregarded—not by my parents—so that I needed to question things and show a woman who is saying: 'I'm not what I look like. I'm a different thing.'”The Guardian, 2008.

On aging:

"You have to embrace getting older. Life is precious, and when you've lost a lot of people, you realize each day is a gift."Good Housekeeping, 2008.
